Job summary

Ceredigion County Council Direct Payment Support Service is seeking a Personal Assistant to support a man with cerebral palsy in his home in the mid-50s. The role involves hands-on care, personal assistance, meal prep, and helping with daily tasks to enable independence.

Experience with communication aids and mobility devices is beneficial. A willingness to learn his routines and adapt to his needs is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Be happy to give Anthony a hand to do things in his own home while communicating with his wife appropriately who also supports him as well as his mother-in-law who lives with them.
• Anthony requires help with all aspects of personal care and dressing.
• Give Anthony his medication when he asks for it as he knows what medication he takes and when he needs it.
• Carry out Anthony’s preferred means of transfer using a standing transfer so he can continue using his legs as much as possible.
• Learn how to communicate effectively with Anthony using his various means of communication especially a 100 symbol chart and a 600-word board with a headlight, and an Accent 1400 voice-output device.
• Prepare meals and assist with eating and drinking.
• Help Anthony with housework and with his pastimes.
• Driving Anthony around would be an advantage.
