Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is delivering a key civil infrastructure programme on the Sizewell C site. We seek a Civil Engineer with a strong background to lead construction and engineering teams, ensuring delivery to programme, budget and quality while coordinating with clients and stakeholders.

The role requires extended shift patterns, CSCS and SMSTS, and a track record of managing large-scale projects with multiple sub-contractors. Strong leadership and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering to HNC / Degree level with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must hold CSCS card and SMSTS qualification as a minimum.
  • Experience managing large-scale projects with multiple sub-contractors.

Responsibilities

  • To manage the construction works for CWA during extended shift patterns.
  • To manage the construction & engineering teams delivering on time, to quality and within budget.
  • To organise and monitor the programming and progress of the works.
  • To coordinate between the engineering and construction teams.
  • To maintain good relationship with the Client and Statutory Stakeholders.
  • Ensure seamless handover to the follow-on shift and complete record keeping.
  • Variable shift pattern to suit project requirements (back shift/night shift/weekends).

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke.

What you'll be doing

To manage the construction works for CWA during extended shift patterns encompassing the following requirements:

To manage the construction & engineering teams taking accountability for delivery to time, quality and budget of all detailed technical information necessary for the construction.

To organise and monitor the programming and progress of the works

To coordinate between the engineering and construction teams.

To maintain good relationship with the Client and Statutory Stakeholders.

Ensure seamless handover to the follow‑on shift and complete record keeping

Variable shift pattern to suit project requirements (back shift/ night shift/ weekends probable)

Who we're looking for

Civil Engineering to HNC / Degree level and have at least 5 years relevant professional experience. Must hold a valid suitable grade of CSCS card and hold certificates/training below:

SMSTS

Proven experience of a large scale project managing across multiple sub contractors.

Desirable

Professional membership of engineering or project management organization

First responder training

Incident controller training

First aid

Knowledge of lifting operations

Experience And Knowledge

Successful experience in management role.

Competent knowledge in Earthworks, Structures, Marine, Ground engineering and/or heavy civils

(preferable) Ability to manage engineers and operatives.

Experience of maintaining good relations with designer and client.

Knowledge of Government legislation and Company policy on all matters relating to safety

and environment.
