Job summary

A nationwide utility services provider in the UK is seeking a Day Duty Engineer to provide technical oversight for drainage works across the TfL network. Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a drainage, civil engineering, or utilities field-based role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of drainage systems, jetting, CCTV surveying.
  • Competent in reviewing and interpreting technical documentation.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (no more than 6 penalty points).

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and decision-making support for live works.
  • Review work allocations and ensure teams are properly briefed.
  • Assess and resolve operational challenges including access and safety issues.
  • Act as the key point of technical escalation for site teams.
  • Ensure works comply with Health & Safety and rail standards.

Job description

We are seeking a technically skilled Day Duty Engineer to join our Rail Division supporting drainage and infrastructure works across the Transport for London (TfL) network.

Working closely with the Service Coordinator you will provide technical oversight operational guidance and on-the-ground decision-making to ensure that all works are carried out safely efficiently and to a high standard.

This role is ideal for someone from a field-based engineering background - such as drainage civil or utilities - who is confident making informed technical decisions and leading operational delivery from a control and support perspective.

Hours: 4 on / 4 off shift pattern 06:00 18:00 (12-hour shifts)

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance and decision-making support for live works across the TfL rail network.
  • Work closely with the Service Coordinator to review work allocations ensuring teams are properly briefed and equipped.
  • Assess and resolve operational challenges including access safety and technical issues as they arise.
  • Act as the key point of technical escalation for site teams and supervisors.
  • Ensure works are delivered in compliance with Health & Safety environmental and rail industry standards.
  • Review and approve job packs RAMS and other documentation before works commence.
  • Maintain real-time oversight of ongoing works coordinating with client representatives and internal teams.
  • Verify and sign off completed works where required ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Provide technical feedback and improvement suggestions to enhance efficiency and performance.
  • Support ongoing staff development by offering guidance and mentoring to engineers and field teams.
Skills and Experience Required
  • Proven experience in a drainage civil engineering or utilities field-based role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of drainage systems jetting CCTV surveying and associated rail infrastructure works.
  • Understanding of rail-specific safety requirements and possession working practices.
  • Excellent communication problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Competent in reviewing and interpreting technical documentation (RAMS, drawings, specifications).
  • Proficient in Microsoft OƯice and general IT systems.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (no more than 6 penalty points).

Training and ongoing development will be provided by senior professionals within the business with opportunities for career progression into senior engineering or management roles.
