DT Technician

Key Responsibilities
Food Technology
  • Stock & Hygiene: Manage food supplies, check expiry dates, store items safely, maintain kitchen hygiene (sinks, worktops, cookers).
  • Preparation: Portion ingredients, set up cooking stations, clean equipment like blenders.
  • Safety: Uphold food hygiene laws (aprons, hair tied back).
Textiles
  • Equipment: Set up and maintain sewing machines, manage threads and fabrics.
  • Materials: Prepare fabrics, assist with dyeing (tie-dye), and manage textile resources.
  • Support: Help students with practical tasks and coursework under teacher direction.
General/Shared Duties
  • Health & Safety: Implement risk assessments, ensure compliance, manage chemical storage (COSHH).
  • Resource Management: Keep storage tidy, organize materials, maintain inventories, and undertake minor repairs.
  • Student Support: Provide guidance, supervise students, foster a positive learning environment.
  • Admin: Assist with displays, photocopying, liaison with teaching staff.
Essential Skills & Attributes
  • Practical, hands‑on approach and initiative.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety and hygiene.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
