Job summary

Principal Education seeks a practical, reliable Design & Technology Technician to support secondary schools across Hackney. You will prepare resources, maintain workshop equipment and help lessons run safely and smoothly in a busy educational environment.

You should have a hands-on background in engineering, carpentry or product design, with a commitment to health and safety. Previous school experience is helpful but not required, and DBS update service is preferred.

Qualifications

• A relevant technical qualification in Design & Technology or a related subject.
• Experience in carpentry, engineering, construction, manufacturing or product design.
• Knowledge of workshop safety procedures and safe handling of tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of CAD/CAM, 3D printing or laser cutting is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tools, materials and equipment for Design & Technology lessons.
• Set up and organise workshop spaces before practical activities.
• Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
• Check, maintain and organise tools, machinery and equipment.
• Assist teachers with practical demonstrations and classroom activities.
• Monitor stock levels and ensure materials are available when required.
• Follow health and safety procedures, including safe equipment handling.
• Support the day-to-day running of the DT department.
