Qualifications

  • Driving a range of vehicles to transport students and senior stakeholders.
  • Supporting flight-line operations including aircraft movement and refueling.
  • Conducting vehicle checks and ensuring compliance with DVSA and RAF regulations.
  • Managing transport documentation and maintaining personal driving certifications.
  • Collaborating with ground crews to ensure readiness for daily flying operations.

Skills

The role

As a Driver Handler, you’ll be a vital part of our aviation operations, supporting flying activity and ensuring safe, efficient ground logistics. From transporting personnel to preparing aircraft for flight, your work will directly contribute to the success of military aviation missions. This is a hands on role where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to grow.

Day-to-day, you’ll be reporting to the Senior Driver and ensure the provision of professional driving for all nominated tasks as required.

  • Driving a range of vehicles to transport students and senior stakeholders
  • Supporting flight‑line operations including aircraft movement and refuelling
  • Conducting vehicle checks and ensuring compliance with DVSA and RAF regulations
  • Managing transport documentation and maintaining personal driving certifications
  • Collaborating with ground crews to ensure readiness for daily flying operations

This role is full time, 40 hours per week over 4 days and is based on site at RAF Leeming.

Essential experience of the Driver Handler
  • Practical and theoretical understanding of transport operations
  • Knowledge of RAF, DVSA, and Dangerous Goods regulations
  • Familiarity with transport and driver legal requirements
Qualifications for the Driver Handler
  • PSV, LGV, and ADR qualified (candidates without all licences may still be considered)
  • Must meet CP2/CP3 colour vision standards for airside operations

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
