Portareel Drainage Engineer

Location

Ryemeads Sewage Treatment Works, Home Counties North Region (Ware, Hertfordshire)

Job Type

Permanent full‑time

Hours

Monday to Friday – 50 hours (3 weeks of days, 1 week of nights)

Salary

OTE 37,000 per annum (includes overtime night‑shift allowances and any bonuses)

About the Role

Due to continued growth and development we are looking for customer‑focused people to join our Utility Division working on the Thames Water contract service to deliver real and effective solutions to wastewater network and drainage problems.

  • Working alongside a HGV two‑person crew to operate a portareel for both planned and reactive blockages.
  • Delivering good customer service.
  • Maintaining good H&S practice while carrying out works.
  • Ensuring vehicle stock is full and replenished.
  • Complying with health and safety responsibilities (PPE, safe site set‑ups, protecting Lanes Group employees, the public and other road users).
  • Using VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
  • Liaising with the client regarding progress and any updates.
  • Working unsupervised in all weather conditions using correct PPE and lone‑worker system.
  • Dynamically risk‑assessing site access and working conditions depending on specific circumstances on arrival.
  • Providing support to colleagues.
  • Conducting thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before and after use.
  • Reporting any defects or malfunctions in relation to training.
  • Carrying out risk assessments and demonstrating a mature approach to risk perception.
  • Being aware of all Lanes Group policies and responsibilities towards them.
  • Performing any other reasonable ad‑hoc duties requested by management.
