The University of Oxford invites applications for a DPhil studentship in Synthetic Organic and Physical Chemistry starting 1 October 2027, under the supervision of Dr Daniel G. Congrave in the Department of Chemistry. The studentship covers Home fees and provides a stipend of at least £21,805 p.a. for four years.
The project investigates luminescent organic materials with potential optoelectronic applications, requiring a strong chemistry background and independent learning ability.
Supervisor: Dr Daniel G. Congrave
Start date: 1st October 2027
Applications are invited a DPhil studentship in Synthetic Organic and Physical Chemistry available from October 2027, to work under the supervision of Dr Daniel Congrave in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford.
The studentship will cover course fees at a Home rate and provide a stipend of no less than the standard UK Research Council rate (currently set at £21,805 p.a.) for 4 years. Please see: https://www.ox.ac.uk/students/fees-funding/fees/status for more information.
The studentship is funded by the European Research Council and the University of Oxford. The research is interdisciplinary and will encompass the design, synthesis and investigation of new luminescent organic materials. The aim is to make fundamental progress to facilitate a new generation of materials with implications in a wide range of applications, particularly optoelectronics (e.g. solar panels, sensing and displays). Further information on research in the Congrave Group can be found on the group website: https://congravegroup.site.ox.ac.uk/ Applicants are encouraged to contact Dr Daniel Congrave for further information on the studentship before applying: dan.congrave@chem.ox.ac.uk
Candidates with a first-class or strong upper second-class undergraduate degree in Chemistry are encouraged to apply. The candidates are expected to be strongly committed to research and have demonstrated the ability to independently learn new skills. Experience in synthetic chemistry is highly desirable. The successful applicants will be based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory (CRL), Oxford.
Application deadline: 12.00 noon UK time on Wednesday, 6th January 2027.
