You will provide care to residents, enabling them to remain independent, by providing personal care, assessing, monitoring and evaluating individual needs as well as supporting residents with household and some housekeeping tasks. It is important that you not only promote mental health and physical well-being to residents aiming to maximise their independence and meaningful engagement but also that you are able to update and maintain accurate care plans, records, assessments and communicate this with families, GP's, and other professionals. We are looking for people who are committed to challenging ageism, promoting healthy ageing, combatting loneliness while promoting equity, diversity and inclusion within communities and who are comfortable with using technology to ensure that we are being as efficient and effective as possible.

Responsibilities
  • Be approachable, receptive, and reactive to resident needs, providing day to day personal care, reporting any changes in a resident's condition to the appropriate professional to ensure their wellbeing, security, and safety.
  • Monitor resident's dietary needs, assist with the preparation of food, drinks, and snacks, aid eating and drinking, and record and report weight fluctuations.
  • Be responsive and sociable, encouraging residents to participate in social and occupational activities designed to stimulate and enhance their highest quality of life.
  • Apply the principles of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) to protect people who lack capacity and maximise their ability to make decisions or participate in decision making.
  • Provide domestic and practical support, washing up, cleaning spillages, hoovering, bed making, linen changes, clothes washing/ironing, and cleaning hygiene areas; ensure a hygienic and odour‑free environment encouraging residents to be involved to foster a homely environment.
  • Carry out shopping trips/pension collections when required.
  • Assist and administer medication, recording accurately details of the assistance given or medication administered, and monitor stock levels, supporting the resident to order medication when required.
  • Update care documentation, including care and support plans, medication records, risk assessments and any other resident‑related documentation to ensure safe, person‑centred, efficient and effective working.
  • Enable good 2‑way communication with colleagues and residents, being supportive, inclusive, and encouraging a culture of mutual respect.
  • Maintain good communication with families, GP's, the Community Nursing Team, and other professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Always respond positively and cheerfully to all enquiries, reporting any repairs required to college property to the Property Services Team, and role‑model compassion and respect in all aspects of the work.
  • Be aware during your shift of health and safety obligations, ensuring the environment is safe for the resident, equipment is checked prior to use and cleaned thoroughly after use.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Care Certificate
  • QCF Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • QCF Level 2 Award in End‑of‑Life Care
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a residential care setting for older adults, including understanding of care responsibilities towards individuals, families and carers and team members in relation to safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
