Job summary

A community-based health service in Strabane seeks weekend domiciliary care workers to assist adults at risk in their homes. The role includes personal, domestic, and social care, requiring a driving licence and good communication skills. Training is provided, and no previous experience is necessary. Successful candidates will complete an Enhanced Access NI check and register with NISCC. Qualifications

  • NISCC registered or willing to undertake registration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal and domestic care to adults at risk in their own homes.
  • Assist service users with personal hygiene and domestic tasks.
  • Encourage service users to participate in daily activities.
  • Maintain accurate information in line with company policies.

Skills

Full valid driving licence

Job description

Strabane & District Caring Services is a community-based, non-profit organisation providing domiciliary health care and other services to the community. The company has a strong community ethos and is committed to providing the best value and highest professional standards in all that we do. We encourage people to take control of their lives and support people who are less able to do so. Strabane & District Caring Services has part‑time contracts available for weekend domiciliary care workers to provide care in the community in the Cityside & Waterside areas of Derry/Londonderry.

Responsibilities
  • Domiciliary carers work as part of a team to provide personal and domestic care to adults at risk including the frail, elderly and those with mental and physical health issues in their own homes.
  • Personal care as specified on the care plan for the service user. This includes assisting service users with all aspects of personal hygiene i.e. washing, shaving, showering etc.
  • Domestic care when directed, maintain cleanliness of the service user’s home to ensure a safe environment set out in the health and safety requirements.
  • Social care to actively encourage service users according to their capabilities in the care plan to participate in daily activities.
  • Collaboration with other personnel involved in the care of the service user i.e. G.P.s, nurses, and social workers etc.
  • General duties: the domiciliary worker must maintain accurate and reliable information recorded in line with Strabane District Caring Services policies and procedures.
Skills and Qualifications
  • A full valid driving licence and access to transport for work purposes.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of health and safety in the workplace. Able to promote and deliver personal care.
  • 6 months experience in a formal care setting.
  • NVQ level 2 in Care or equivalent.
  • NISCC registered or willing to undertake if successful.
  • Knowledge of domiciliary care minimum standards.
  • Carers must be flexible and able to cover additional hours when necessary.
  • Able to promote dignity and respect in care delivery.
  • To have the ability to listen and provide support to individual clients and carers.
Further Information

Weekend work available in both Cityside and Waterside in Derry/Londonderry. No previous experience required – training provided. Successful applicants must be willing to carry out an Enhanced Access NI check. Having a criminal conviction will not necessarily prohibit you from working with Strabane & District Caring Services. This will depend on the information provided and obtained from disclosure certificate, as well as the position applied for. Access NI Code of Practice is available from nidirect.gov.uk. Successful applicants will be required to register with NISCC by their start date.
