We are looking for a dedicated Night Shift Domestic Assistant to join our team, supporting wards and A&E by carrying out essential deep cleans of bed spaces and general area cleaning to ensure a safe, hygienic environment for patient admissions throughout the night. Domestic Services play a vital role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection control within the hospital, directly contributing to patient safety and quality care. If you take pride in delivering excellent service and understand the importance of a clean environment in healthcare, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform deep cleaning of bed spaces following patient discharge to prepare for new admissions.
  • Carry out general cleaning duties in wards, A&E, and other clinical areas during the night shift.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Use cleaning equipment and materials safely and effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams to ensure cleaning tasks are completed promptly and efficiently.

You will need to be flexible, committed and have a positive attitude to your work.

We believe in team‑working, developing your skills and keeping you safe and well at work; by doing this we aim to fulfil our purpose of keeping the hospital sites clean for service users and colleagues to receive and provide safe, effective, quality care. We believe in supporting each other to achieve this and to help give service users as comfortable an experience as we can.

Enhanced rates are paid for weekend work, unsocial hours work, and overnight hours. Uniform and PPE supplied, access to workplace pension scheme, along with excellent holiday entitlement. Previous experience desirable although full training will be provided for the successful candidate.

Applicants should have a good level of basic education, good communication skills and a full UK driving licence would be desirable. From there, your manager and colleagues will give you the support you need while you complete your on the job training. The work you do in the Domestic team will be essential to the safe running of the Health Service in Shetland; you will be a valued member of the team and may have the opportunity to develop skills in other areas of the facilities team if you wish, such as laundry or catering.
