Job description
Overview

As a Domestic Assistant you will be responsible for keeping wards, offices, and public areas clean to a high standard. You will work as part of the domestic service team, as well as part of the wider community within the hospital setting. Working Hours: 15 hours Monday - Friday with a consistent shift pattern. Entry Requirements: There is no entry requirement to become a domestic assistant, however you may be required to complete NVQ Level 1 in cleaning. Training: When you start as a domestic you will attend an induction and all relevant training will be given. Communication Skills: You will need good communication skills as well as a caring and sensitive nature. Physical Fitness: A physical component to working as a domestic assistant as you may be on your feet for long periods of time. A combination of physical fitness and knowledge of proper lifting and manual handling techniques allows you to properly perform the full range of your duties. Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high standard of cleaning in line with infection prevention.
  • Work from a daily/weekly schedule in both clinical and non-clinical areas, ensuring the hospital is clean and patients have a pleasant and safe stay.
  • Perform a range of duties including cleaning patients’ or service users’ rooms/wards, toilets, bathroom areas, communal areas (lounges, dining areas, corridors), utility rooms, and deep‑cleaning operations in certain areas.
  • Use the most appropriate cleaning equipment for the task, including vacuum cleaner, mops, or electric floor cleaner.
  • Use cleaning products and other chemicals safely and effectively.
  • Keep up to date with safety procedures such as fire procedures and escape routes, and undertake appropriate workplace training.
  • Carry out specific cleaning and other related duties to set procedures and standards.
  • Ensure infection control policies are adhered to.
  • Work as part of a team, using a degree of initiative to prioritise and organise daily duties while always maintaining a professional approach.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of clinical and non‑clinical areas is maintained to the required standard.
