Domestic Assistant - Leighton Hospital

The closing date is 10 November 2025.

Various shifts and hours available to include - Days & Evenings - hours to be confirmed at interview - Part Time Hours only.

Shifts are over 7 days a week, and include alternate weekends, on a rota.

Domestic services staff work across all areas of the NHS, making sure that all areas are clean and safe places where staff can care for patients while reducing the risk of infection.

Qualifications

Main duties of the job

Domestic/cleaning work in a hospital is very different to other domestic/cleaning jobs.

You may be cleaning wards, theatres, COVID areas and so on. You will have to wear PPE (which will be provided).

Hospital Domestic assistants have a lot of contact with patients, and their family/visitors, so customer service is a large focus. We would expect you to use your people skills to help make patients' hospital visits more pleasant.

No qualifications are needed to be a domestic assistant, but you need to be aware of hygiene issues, be discreet, be able to respect patients' rights to privacy and dignity, have a pleasant manner and work quickly and meticulously.

We'll need you to be hard working, reliable, flexible, and a good team player. It's even better if you have worked as a domestic or cleaner before.

Job responsibilities

• Provide and maintain cleaning services in all public, patient, staff and residential areas.
• Respond quickly and efficiently to cleaning requests following spillages.
• Deliver specialist cleaning processes for furnishings, flooring and surfaces.
• Clean general and patient equipment in accordance with agreed guidance from Infection Control, Matrons and Facilities Managers.
• Clean isolation areas and infection areas in accordance with Trust Infection Control Policy.
• Clean patient areas ready for re‑occupancy.
• Assist in maintaining safe and tidy ward/department areas e.g. removing clutter, unwanted or out of date notices.
• Report problems with cleanliness to the housekeeper and/or supervisor.
• Dispose of household, confidential and clinical waste in accordance with legislation and Trust policy.
• Maintain and clean manual and electrical cleaning equipment.
• Be aware of the safety of other people's property and belongings.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy of information at all times.
• Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others, by taking action/alerting senior management if practice appears to contravene policy, or if concerned about any issues.
