Domestic services assistants work across all areas of the NHS, ensuring clean, safe environments and reducing infection risk. They may clean wards, theatres, COVID areas and other clinical spaces while wearing PPE.
Responsibilities
- Provide and maintain cleaning services in all public, patient, staff and residential areas.
- Respond quickly and efficiently to cleaning requests following spillages.
- Deliver specialist cleaning processes for furnishings, flooring and surfaces.
- Clean general and patient equipment in accordance with guidance from Infection Control, Matrons and Facilities Managers.
- Clean isolation areas and infection areas in accordance with Trust Infection Control Policy.
- Prepare patient areas for re‑occupancy.
- Assist in maintaining safe and tidy ward/department areas, removing clutter and unwanted notices.
- Report problems with cleanliness to the housekeeper and/or supervisor.
- Dispose of household, confidential and clinical waste in accordance with legislation and Trust policy.
- Maintain and clean manual and electrical cleaning equipment.
- Be aware of the safety of other people's property and belongings.

- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of information at all times.
- Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others, taking action or alerting senior management if practice appears to contravene policy.
