Domestic Assistant (Cleaner – University Accommodation) – Part time

We will be looking for enthusiastic, positive and reliable individuals to provide an effective cleaning service on a student residences site.

Various posts, depending on availability, ranging on average between 16 – 21 hours per week typically between 8.30 am – 3.00 pm, Monday – Friday.

Starting Salary: £12.60 per hour.

Package includes 32 days holiday per year plus 8 bank holidays, pro rata for part time staff, as well as access to a range of staff discounts.

The role will require a flexible approach to working hours and is based on working 5 days out of 7 each week, as required, (typically Monday – Friday), to support the achievement of the departments goals. During arrivals / departures, conferences and other busy periods you may be required to work additional hours.

Please note this role requires you to be based on campus.

Job Description

Main Duties

• To clean designated areas in student residences, i.e. study / bedrooms, bathrooms, communal areas, kitchens, toilets, showers, corridors, foyers, stairs, landings, windows, walls, lifts, TV rooms to ensure they are kept in a clean and hygienic condition, including carpet shampooing, where applicable.
• To effectively clean all touch points e.g. door handles, knobs, locks and push plates, railings, banisters, lift buttons, vending machines, light switches etc.
• To check and replenish hand sanitiser station supplies throughout the site.
• To use the most appropriate approved cleaning equipment and materials.
• To move furniture and cookers / fridges and other equipment as required to enable effective cleaning.
• To defrost fridges / freezers where directed.
• To provide room servicing, including bathrooms and kitchens, changing bed linen, taking bed linen to / from a central storage area, removing refuse etc.
• To remove refuse and dispose of it in the appropriate receptacles.
• To clean bar, administrative offices, and any other areas, where applicable.
• To carry necessary cleaning materials and equipment from area to area, ensuring they are kept in a clean and safe working order.
• To report any damage and / or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
• To participate in legionella flushing procedures and maintain accurate records as required.
• To attend and actively participate in all basic training as identified in the Training Matrix.
• To identify your personal training needs in conjunction with your manager, ensuring that learning is transferred to the workplace.
• To adhere to relevant Health, Safety / Hygiene working practices and legislation, using only cleaning materials and equipment provided.
• To be aware of and to report any potential workplace / personal hazards to health and safety.

Additional Information

Campus Services provides a range of professional support services to students, staff and visitors at Cardiff University. Residences manages accommodation places for approximately 5,500 students, both catered and self‑catered. In terms of catering, there are cafés and restaurants conveniently located across university campuses, in addition to a delivered hospitality service. Cardiff University Sport exists to provide students and staff with a balanced, high quality and integrated sport service which meets the needs of a broad range of users. The Nursery offers facilities for children aged between 10 weeks and 5 years and is divided into sections appropriate to the ages and development of the children. Both residential and catering facilities are utilised for conferences and functions during the University’s vacation periods. A purpose built and designed conference centre and conference facility is also available throughout the year. The Campus Services operation is supported by its own central administration functions covering the allocation of residences, human resource and quality, purchasing, facilities, finance, and general administration.
