The Role

Help bring learning to life!

Stubbington Study Centre is a very popular facility that delivers residential learning opportunities, outside the classroom to primary school aged children. Accommodating over 100 children per week during term-time, the centre provides children, who are often on their first trip away from home, with wonderful experiences that stay with them for a lifetime, building confidence and bringing classroom learning to life.

Following a promotion within our kitchen team, we are looking for a Domestic Assistant to support the Catering Officer and Cook in providing a high-quality catering service to all clients of the centre. With flexibility and good time management skills you'll assist in the preparation and serving of foods and refreshments, working to the highest standards of food hygiene. The hours may vary slightly, but will generally be 10am-2pm Monday, 11am -2pm Tuesday to Thursday AND 4pm – 7pm on Mondays.

What you’ll do

The role involves assisting with the preparation and serving of food and refreshments for around 100 children and 18 education staff, as well as cleaning and tidying the kitchen and dining areas. It includes ensuring the safe storage of food and utensils, maintaining high standards of food hygiene, and keeping accurate records as directed.

The position requires meeting customer needs wherever possible, supporting effective communication for smooth kitchen operations, and attending staff meetings and relevant training. Additionally, the role involves applying HCC and Centre policies and procedures in daily tasks, such as when using cleaning equipment and materials.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, has good time-management skills, and is flexible in taking on a variety of tasks. You should have some knowledge of basic food hygiene and experience with kitchen cleaning.

Ideally, you’ll bring a Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene or equivalent, training in food allergens, and experience in a busy, non-domestic kitchen. Previous experience in a similar role, cooking for children and adults, and an understanding of customer care are highly valued. Knowledge of stock and portion control, along with a willingness to support colleagues and help induct new team members, will make you a great fit for this role.
