Why us?

ILIOS, a consortium led by a Kier-NUVIA joint venture alongside AECOM, architects AL_A and Turner & Townsend, has been appointed by UK Fusion Energy as their Construction Partner for the pioneering STEP Fusion programme. The initial phase, to be delivered over the next three years, is supported by £200m of Governmentfunding. This flagship initiative, sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, is focused on designing and constructing a world-leading prototype fusion power plant at West Burton, Nottinghamshire targeting 2040, with the ambition of delivering a commercially viable pathway for industry.

As part of a wider programme with budget forecasts running up to a multi-billion-pound investment, ILIOS will bring together industry‑leading expertise across major infrastructure, nuclear engineering, complex scientific facilities, programme and cost management, and innovative design. The consortium will be responsible for the design and construction of all buildings, infrastructure, and facilities on the STEP site, as well as supporting wider power plant integration, ensuring full alignment with project stakeholders and regulatory standards.

The programme represents a major milestone in the UK’s transition to low‑carbon energy and is expected to create up to 8,000 jobs at peak construction, offering long‑term economic, employment and training opportunities.
