Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Doctors' Assistant team on Gate 12 covering a period of maternity leave. This role would ideally suite someone looking to expand their skill set and enhance both their clinical and non-clinical skills.As a core member of your team you will work closely with senior and trainee clinical colleagues under the direction of the supervising consultant, supporting resident doctors to deliver a high class service for patients.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post are:ClinicalTo support the junior doctors, Physician Associates and Advanced Nurse Practitioners with clinical and administrative duties.To perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures (subject to appropriate training and experience). These include, but not exhaustively:VenepunctureCannulationArterial blood gasesECGUrethral catheterisationTo attend consultant/and or specialty registrar ward rounds.To support and contribute to timely discharge planning including completing discharge summaries.Telephoning external organisations (e.g. GP surgeries) and patients families to seek further informationArrange clinic appointments for patients following their discharge from hospitalAnswer bleeps or take calls for junior doctors when they are participating in educational eventsTo work within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective team working in the provision of acute medical care to patients on a day to day basis.To develop the role of the Doctors assistantAdvocateEnsure that high standards of patient care are given and maintained and act when standards are not being met.Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivery of care.Act as the patients advocate and ambassador respecting patient confidentiality and privacy with respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and requirements.Take the lead when required to develop patient focused education and information.
