Job description
Divisional Medical Workforce Improvement Manager

The Medical Workforce Improvement Manager will provide divisional assurance that the medical workforce is fully compliant with job planning, appraisals, core skills, rota creation and management, and all activities supporting the experience and development of resident doctors.

The postholder will play a key role in delivering critical national deadlines for safe and compliant rotas and work schedules, as well as supporting the onboarding and induction of doctors rotating across specialities throughout the year.

This role acts as the divisional expert on all matters relating to the medical workforce, leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the management of staffing plans and rotas to ensure services have the capacity to meet key workforce standards.

The postholder will ensure robust compliance, governance, and controls are in place for temporary staffing, rota compliance, training compliance, and attendance management. They will oversee the resolution of day-to-day issues arising from medical rota coordination, ensuring effective rota management and compliance across the division.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead the development and maintenance of agreed staffing establishments and budgets, ensuring alignment with divisional and Trust-wide workforce plans.
  • Review the current operating model, roles and responsibilities, capacity and capability across the division for managing resident doctor establishments, funding and roster compliance, identifying and implementing improvements in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Oversee and improve the efficient rostering of the resident doctor workforce, ensuring service delivery, budget targets, training needs and work-life balance are met.
  • Support and coordinate the proactive recruitment and prompt filling of gaps through recruitment, training, or development channels.
  • Drive continuous improvement in rota management and workforce models, making recommendations for sustainable change to the division and feeding into Trust-wide improvements.
  • Ensure full compliance with employment law, contracts of employment, Trust policies, national standards and terms and conditions.

EDUCATION
