Job summary

A university support service is seeking a qualified individual to supervise dissertation writing, ensuring students receive comprehensive guidance throughout their research process. The successful candidate will have a Masters degree and previous experience in Higher Education, alongside strong interpersonal skills. Responsibilities include providing feedback on drafts, supporting students in research methodology, and fostering inclusive learning environments. This role offers a pay of £250 per student, with occasional evening and weekend work required.

Job description

Salary: 250 per student in all locations. This includes supervisory time, formative feedback, 1st marking and 2nd marking as well as ad-hoc meetings.

Are you someone who can guide students through the process of writing their dissertations? Do you have previous experience of providing dissertation supervision combined with demonstrable experience in Business and Tourism Management as well working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds? We want to hear from you! You will join the teaching teams and support the research project module.

Student Support

• Maintain regular contact with assigned students through scheduled supervision meetings.
• Encourage independent thinking and scholarly development.
• Identify and address academic or personal challenges that may be affecting progress.
• Promote inclusive and supportive learning environments.

Responsibilities

• Support students in defining and refining their research questions and objectives.
• Advise on appropriate research methodologies and ethical considerations.
• Guide students in conducting literature reviews and sourcing relevant materials.
• Provide structured feedback on dissertation drafts and monitor progress.
• Ensure dissertations meet required academic, institutional and PSRB standards.

Qualifications

• Qualified to at least a Masters Level degree in a related discipline area.
• Demonstrable experience in academic research and dissertation supervision.
• Experience of working in Higher Education
• Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methodology
• Knowledge of statistical programmes and secondary data analysis
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of research ethics, methodologies, and academic writing conventions.
• Understanding of, and passion for, both higher education and working with a diverse student body, especially mature students from a widening participation background.
• Willing to work occasional weekends and evenings, and travel to our various campuses.
• Good IT skills working on all Microsoft packages.
