About the Role

Fortus are currently representing a local authority who are looking for a Damp & Mould Surveyor to join their property services division. This position is working on a newly won contract based in East London. We are looking to expand our Disrepair Surveying team and are seeking experienced Surveyors to join the Property Services function. Reporting to the Senior Disrepair Surveyor, you will manage a varied caseload of complex disrepair and complaint cases across a diverse housing portfolio.

Contract

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time (35 hours per week)
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum (dependent on experience) plus Essential Car User Allowance of £1,300 per annum

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage new and historic disrepair cases with a strong emphasis on accurate, detailed information to support clear and timely resolutions for residents.
  • Inspect properties, prepare detailed survey reports and specifications, and ensure compliance with building standards and relevant legislation, including the Housing Conditions Protocol and the Fitness for Human Habitation Act.
  • Work closely with in-house and external legal teams to support the resolution of disrepair cases.
  • Manage a fast‑paced and varied workload, including project management, budget control and the ability to manage a fast‑paced and varied workload.
  • Prioritise work independently and communicate professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, contractors, legal representatives and local authorities.
  • Use digital systems for tracking and managing case information.

What You’ll Bring
  • Experience in a similar surveying role, ideally within a social housing or local authority environment.
  • Proven experience managing disrepair cases.
  • Strong understanding of disrepair legislation and associated legal requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of construction methods and building defects.
  • Qualification to HNC level in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience), with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Experience managing contractors and consultants to deliver works within agreed budgets and timescales.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to use digital systems for case management.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • High standards of customer service and complaint handling.
