Description

ActiveFence’s Disinformation Research team investigates global influence operations, dis- and misinformation, and emerging online harms. We are looking for a Dis- and Misinformation Researcher to help us expand and maintain our growing disinformation database, integrate insights from external research sources, and support cross-discipline analytical efforts across the team. The role involves combining traditional research and geopolitical analysis with data-driven workflows and light automation. This is a unique opportunity for a researcher who is analytical, curious, and independent - someone who thrives at the intersection of data, geopolitics, and information integrity.

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain and expand ActiveFence’s disinformation database, ensuring structured and high-quality data collection from reliable sources.
  • Track, evaluate, and organize research and intelligence reports related to dis- and misinformation, influence operations, and emerging online threats.
  • Lead and collaborate on cross-disciplinary research efforts, working closely with analysts, data specialists, and subject-matter experts.
  • Produce clear, well-written research briefs and presentations, highlighting key insights for internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute to the development of data- and automation-driven research workflows to improve efficiency and scalability.
Requirements

Who You Are

  • At least BA education in Political Science, International Relations, Security Studies, or a related field.
  • At least two years of full-time work experience in research, analysis, or intelligence.
  • Possess native or near-native fluency in English, with excellent writing and storytelling skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of geopolitics, disinformation, and online influence operations
  • Organized, independent, and comfortable managing multiple projects at once.
  • Comfortable using digital tools and learning lightweight automation or data workflows.

Bonus Points For

  • Proficiency in Russian, Chinese, Spanish, French, Arabic or Farsi
  • Experience with open-source intelligence (OSINT) or analytical research tools.
  • Experience producing data-driven infographics or visual analytical outputs.
