Are you enthusiastic about supporting children with special educational needs (SEN) and those who may display challenging behaviour? If so, this could be the perfect role for you.

A well-established school in Hook is seeking an experienced and skilled Disability Support Worker to join their dedicated team on a day-to-day basis, starting ASAP. This is an excellent opportunity to provide expert support to children with Special Educational Needs, contributing to their academic progress and emotional wellbeing in a supportive, inclusive environment. You will work closely with a child with special educational needs, their class teacher, and SENCO to provide the necessary support and accommodations to help them thrive in their education. You will be responsible for implementing an individualised education plan (IEP) and facilitating the child’s participation in class activities.

The role of a Disability Support Worker
  • To support students who struggle with their class work
  • Facilitate a fun and friendly learning environment
  • To provide support to the class teacher
  • To help the class teacher prepare lesson materials and classroom boards
  • To keep the classroom tidy and presentable
  • To encourage children to do their best
  • Help manage classroom behaviour
  • Listen to the children read and practice their phonics
The successful Disability Support Worker
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with autism or social and emotional needs (preferred, not essential)
  • Experience working with SEN (in school, care, or voluntary settings) preferred, not essential
  • Knowledge of and experience with behaviour management strategies
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate effectively with parents and other professionals
  • A patient and nurturing approach to working with children
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in SEN practices and strategies
Requirements to work with GSL Education
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
