Disability Advisor – Higher Education

Leeds – Full Time, Temporary Contract – Pay rate: £17.34 – £20.37 per hour (depending on experience)

I am recruiting on behalf of a well-regarded Leeds based university for an experienced Disability Advisor to join their student support services team on a full time temporary basis. This role will involve providing advice, guidance and practical support to students with a wide range of disabilities, ensuring appropriate adjustments are in place to enable equal access to learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one advice and support to students with disabilities, long-term health conditions or specific learning differences
  • Assess student needs and recommend reasonable adjustments in line with university and legal requirements
  • Produce and update support plans, ensuring accurate records are maintained
  • Liaise with internal teams including academic staff, wellbeing services and external agencies
  • Offer guidance around Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), evidence requirements and support processes
  • Contribute to awareness, inclusion and accessibility initiatives across the university
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a disability advisory, student support or similar role within higher education or a related setting
  • Strong knowledge of disability legislation, including the Equality Act and best practice in accessibility
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to support students with empathy and professionalism
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy caseload
  • Confident working independently and collaboratively as part of a support team
