UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is leading a strategic research and development programme in tritium fuel cycle operations, with a multi-hundred-person team and annual projects exceeding £15M. The role demands global collaboration, securing new grants, and overseeing detritiation and waste management research.

The Director will ensure safety compliance, governance, and high-impact results while building international partnerships and delivering technically innovative solutions for the fusion

Qualifications

• Three of the following four criteria to be shortlisted.
• People & operations management: lead a team of 50 scientific and/or technical staff.
• Delivery of high impact research: manage a portfolio of research and development projects.
• Budget management: annual budget greater than £10M.
• Programme development: develop and win research funding or commercial contracts.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for the quality of research output from the Division, ensuring a world class reputation and continuing international leadership.
• Build a pipeline of opportunities for new grants, partnerships, collaborations and business cases, writing high quality bids and bringing new revenues into the division to support the agreed technical strategy.
• Ensures the Division is working effectively and pro-actively on cross-cutting work packages with other divisions.
• Ensures all projects managed within the Division have appropriate oversight and governance.
• Ensures all operations and facilities within the Division are carried out safely and conform to statutory requirements.
