About the Role
We're looking for a hands-on Director of People Operations who can build and execute our people strategy while rolling up their sleeves for day-to-day HR work. You'll work autonomously, own the full employee lifecycle, and be the team’s first point of contact for all things people-related.

- Conduct exit interviews and analyze feedback to improve retention
- Partner with Executive Assistant on team-building events and recognition programs
- Monitor employee satisfaction through surveys and feedback mechanisms

- Oversee the recruiting function and collaborate with hiring managers to define role requirements
- Partner with and manage external recruiters and recruitment agencies
- Draft compelling, accurate job descriptions that can attract top talent
- Design and optimize hiring processes for efficiency and candidate experience
- Manage candidate pipeline and communication throughout the recruitment process
- Ensure positive candidate experience from application through offer/rejection
- Track recruitment metrics and improve hiring processes based on data
- Coordinate reference checks and background verification processes
Process Innovation and Execution
- Own and execute performance review cycles in Lattice
- Develop, update, and communicate employee policies and procedures
- Design and coordinate training programs and professional development opportunities
- Execute seamless onboarding and offboarding processes
- Identify process inefficiencies and implement scalable improvements
- Maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy in HRIS systems
- Handle day-to-day HR operations, including fielding questions from staff, ensuring a smooth virtual office, and supporting any escalated issues from teams or managers
Management & Strategic Partnership
- Provide direct management and mentorship to the Operations Manager, ensuring smooth execution across IT, procurement, internal tools/systems, and NYC office operations.
- Coordinate with our PEO for payroll, benefits, and compliance
- Manage relationships with HR vendors, benefits providers, and service partners
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations

- Work autonomously with minimal oversight while keeping the CEO informed on key decisions
- Balance startup agility with necessary HR structure and scalability
What We Seek:

- Previous experience as the sole or senior-most HR person at an earlier-stage startup (Series A-C)
- A passion for and interest in designing and rolling out programming that creates a strong and unified hybrid culture
- Proven track record in hands-on HR leadership roles, comfortable with both program design and execution
- Experience working independently and reporting directly to executive leadership
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive employee situations with discretion
