Irwin & Colton is recruiting a Director of Health, Safety and Fire for a high‑profile UK operation. The role shapes safety strategy, governance and risk management across the estate, engaging senior leaders, contractors and frontline teams to embed a proactive safety culture.

The successful candidate will strengthen governance, assurance and cultural change initiatives while partnering with executives to drive performance and safety outcomes across the organisation.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Diploma and Chartered IOSH membership are essential.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety and fire safety legislation applicable to complex environments.
• Demonstrated ability to drive cultural change and influence across all levels.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction for health, safety and fire across the estate in line with legal requirements and internal standards.
• Lead company-wide safety risk management, governance, reporting and leading indicators to drive performance.
• Influence senior stakeholders and act as trusted adviser to the executive leadership team.
• Provide leadership to a multidisciplinary safety function and develop capability and collaboration across the organisation.

The successful individual will strengthen safety governance, assurance and risk management while working closely with senior leaders to embed a proactive safety culture. With ongoing investment, infrastructure development and organisational change, this is an opportunity to influence safety at an organisation-wide level and make a lasting impact on performance and culture.

Key responsibilities of the Director of Health, Safety and Fire are:

• Setting the strategic direction for health, safety and fire across the estate, ensuring alignment with legal requirements, industry best practice and internal standards.
• Leading company-wide safety risk management and safety assurance, embedding robust governance, reporting and leading indicators to drive performance.
• Influencing senior stakeholders and act as a trusted adviser to the executive leadership team, shaping priorities and decision-making.
• Providing leadership to a multidisciplinary team, developing capability, performance and a visible, collaborative safety function.

The successful Director of Health, Safety and Fire will have:

• NEBOSH Diploma and a Chartered membership of IOSH is essential.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety and fire safety legislation, with the ability to apply it in complex and fast paced environments.
• Demonstrable experience of driving cultural change, improving Health & Safety performance and influencing across all levels.
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including working with external regulators and partners.
