HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, operating in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an individual to join the team as Director, Large Corporate Special Credit Unit. In this role you will be responsible for protecting the Bank’s balance sheet whilst safeguarding against reputational and other non‑financial risks. This includes working with the First Line of Defence and Wholesale Credit Risk to identify customers that are in a state of financial stress or distress, and mitigating such risks often by way of restructuring of the facilities provided and/or oversight of strategic reviews and turnarounds.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Understanding the customer’s business (including face‑to‑face customer meetings).
  • Making a full assessment of all relevant internal & external risks quickly & efficiently according to the priority level.
  • Considering, creating & implementing appropriate strategies/action plans.
  • Optimising facility structures.
  • Minimising impairments/maximising recoveries.
  • Navigating the inevitable challenges of distressed case management.
  • Overseeing or leading negotiations with key stakeholders (management / lenders / shareholders / advisors) in a constructive manner, achieving consensual solutions where possible.
  • Ensuring the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do.

Requirements for success:

  • Restructuring experience, principally restructuring underperforming loans.
  • Robust credit and analytical skills with significant focus on reputational risk and the Bank’s integrity.
  • Ability to assimilate information rapidly and identify key risks, achieving results through others and influencing key decision makers.
  • Strong negotiation skills, including the ability to exercise judgement and show evidence of operating with courageous integrity.
  • Effective succinct internal communications both within the team and upwards to executive management.

The role location will be Manchester, Leeds or Glasgow. We are dedicated to creating diverse and inclusive workplaces – no matter gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation or age. We will offer an interview to people with disabilities, long‑term conditions or neurodivergent candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the role.
