Overview

This position will support the Drug Product Division (DPD) Europe & Asia Pacific (EU/APAC) within Thermo Fisher's Pharma Services Group, reporting directly to the VP and Lead Counsel, DPD.

Responsibilities
  • Director, Corporate Counsel you will develop and implement legal policies and procedures for DPD‑EU/APAC. You will develop a team of professionals and own all legal aspects of operations for these businesses. The role is also a member of the Leadership Team for DPD‑EU/APAC, advising senior management on company strategies and their implementation, compliance and regulatory requirements and the work of outside counsel.
  • As a leader, you will work with customers and counterparts on regulatory matters and liaise with corporate functions that provide support for litigation, labor, risk management and intellectual property matters.
  • This role is fully remote (working from home) based anywhere in the UK or Italy. Some international travel may be required – up to 25% of working time, including overnight stays.
  • Lead the legal team to implement company goals and protect investments across DPD‑EU/APAC.
  • Work with business leaders to set legal and regulatory strategies to achieve business objectives and pro‑actively identify emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Work effectively within the organization to connect resources to address challenges of diverse scope and complexity.
  • Develop strategies for resolving contractual disputes, including detailed analysis of contract terms and legal remedies.
  • Explore continual process improvement to provide efficient and effective commercial legal support and risk management. Pro‑actively drive improved efficiency of operations.
  • Lead and guide team in implementation of same and structure work in efficient manner.
  • Select and manage external counsel, vendors and advisors as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and JD from an accredited law school and a member in good standing with the bar; licensed to practice law.
  • Proven experience in commercial legal work, including 5 years' in‑house experience in global operating companies involving life sciences or a related area such as pharmaceuticals (drug manufacturing in particular).
  • Experienced people leader with experience developing and leading successful teams of attorneys and legal professionals.
  • Experience of working with a business‑legal approach and cross‑functional teams.
  • Ability to navigate sophisticated and ambiguous environments with risk taking.
  • Demonstrated ability to align and influence through direct and indirect authority, and communicate effectively across teams, functions, and regions.
  • Ability to develop practical processes/approaches and to drive solutions to completion, including initiatives to improve efficiency, quality and productivity.
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills. Strong sense of ethics and integrity.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
