Descripción del empleo

If you love making systems run smoothly, enjoy managing websites, and want your work to have real social impact, this is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in a fast-growing, purpose-driven organisation.

The Politics Project is looking for an organised and proactive Programme Lead to manage our widely used Democracy Classroom website, and support office operations and programme delivery.

About The Politics Project

The Politics Project supports young people to use their voice by giving them access to outstanding democratic education. We are a non-partisan organisation working with young people, teachers, youth practitioners and politicians to help them learn about, teach and actively participate in democracy.

We also lead the Democracy Classroom Network, bringing together over 100 organisations across the democracy, education and youth sectors. Together, we support over 3,500 teachers and youth practitioners to engage young people in democracy. The network website is a one-stop shop bank of educational resources and materials on politics and democracy.

This is an exciting time for The Politics Project as we prepare to support the introduction of Votes at 16 and help shape the expansion of democratic and citizenship education. We are building on a successful two years where we have impacted decision making and policy through A Roadmap to Votes at 16 and the Curriculum and Assessment Review. We have also written and launched the national Democratic Education Framework in collaboration with the Electoral Commission, a new initiative designed to underpin democratic education in the UK.

About the role

We are looking for a proactive, organised and collaborative Programme Lead to support the delivery and development of the Communications & Networks team’s work.

They will manage and grow the Democracy Classroom website, ensuring that resources, programme information and partner content are accurate, current and giving the best experience for our key audiences. They will also build and maintain positive working relationships with Democracy Classroom partners, liaising with them to identify new resources, educational materials, activities and opportunities to feature on the Democracy Classroom website and share through our marketing channels, including our monthly newsletters.

The Programme Lead will support the planning and delivery of meetings, events and workshops, including preparing meeting agendas, taking minutes, tracking actions and arranging logistics (venues, catering, tech, participant communications, etc). They will also oversee day-to-day office administration, including supplies, IT support liaison, HR support, record-keeping and finance processes, including invoices and expenses.

They will have opportunities to contribute to wider organisational projects as well, learning new skills as our work evolves.

Terms and benefits

The job is based on a 15-month contract, with likely extension (including a 4-month probation period). The hours of work are 37.5 hrs per week.

The Politics Project is based in London. The post holder will be expected to work in the office at least two days a week. Travel elsewhere in the UK, extra days based in the office and working unsocial hours in evenings and at weekends may be occasionally required.

Benefits include:

  • 33 days’ annual leave including three days off between Christmas and New Year, in addition to Bank Holidays.

  • 4% employer pension contribution.

  • 2 working days / 15 hours of volunteer leave a year.

  • Cycle to Work scheme.

  • Professional development and training opportunities.

  • A warm, inclusive and values-led working environment.

At The Politics Project you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to young people’s lives, and support projects and programmes that build the skills they need to help shape their communities.

About you

You are reliable, enthusiastic and highly organised, with strong attention to detail. You are able and comfortable working with a range of stakeholders. You have outstanding organisational and administrative skills. You enjoy solving problems, improving systems and supporting a mission-driven team. You thrive working both independently and collaboratively, and you’re comfortable managing multiple priorities at once.

Above all, you care about supporting young people’s democratic engagement and believe in the values and mission of The Politics Project.

In accordance with our Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures, this position requires an enhanced DBS check that we will provide.
