Job summary

AstraZeneca is offering a 12-month University Industrial Placement for a Digital & Data Improvement Specialist in Macclesfield, UK. The base salary is £28,000 with bonus and flexible benefits.

Start date is September 2027; applications are open now as part of the UIPS programme. You will work with data, digital technology and Lean methods to identify practical improvements, coding solutions and cross-functional collaboration across operations.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or integrated Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related field; one year in industry starting Sep 2027.
• Interest in using data, technology or structured improvement approaches to solve practical problems.
• Some experience or understanding of data analysis, coding, digital technology, process improvement or project delivery.
• Ability to work collaboratively with people from different teams and backgrounds.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Curiosity, initiative and willingness to learn.
• Ability to organise work and deliver outcomes within timelines.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to projects that improve processes and enable better decisions.
• Investigate how a process operates and identify where data or technology could improve efficiency.
• Analyse data, assess quality, identify trends, and develop reports or visualisations.
• Write code using Python, R or SQL to automate tasks and create practical solutions.
• Develop and improve digital tools and processes; prototype and test solutions.
• Coordinate project activities and communicate outcomes with stakeholders.
• Follow data governance, privacy, security and regulatory requirements.
