ThePrincess Alexandra Hospital have a job opportunity for an Acute SpecialistDietitian to join the Dietetics team, focusing primarily on patients within theMedicine division. You will play a key role in delivering high-qualitynutritional care across a range of acute settings, which may include CriticalCare, Acute Admissions, and Surgical wards, depending on service needs. Therole also provides the opportunity to contribute to service development,participate in parenteral nutrition rounds alongside a nutrition practitionerand pharmacist, and develop your leadership and line management skills within asupportive and dynamic multidisciplinary environment.

Main duties of the job

As amember of the acute dietetic team, you will lead dietetic input for inpatientsin the Medicine division, support parenteral nutrition rounds, and cover Generaland Gastroenterology outpatient clinics on ad hoc basis. After 612 months, youwill take online management responsibilities and contribute as a StudentPlacement Lead Educator. The role includes participation in clinical, servicedevelopment, and team meetings, with regular supervision, CPD, and trainingopportunities to support your professional development. Collaborative workingwith multidisciplinary teams is essential to provide patient-centred, safe, andeffective care.

Job responsibilities
  • To lead and manage the Dietetic service for the Medicine division,overseeing inpatient caseloads across Medicine, Critical Care, AcuteAdmissions, and Surgical wards, ensuring effective clinical and servicedelivery.
  • To act as a source of expertise for other dietitians, provide guidance onpatient care, and contribute to service development, pathway improvements, anddepartmental initiatives.
  • To conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments, implement individualisedtreatment plans, monitor patient progress, and provide input in parenteralnutrition rounds alongside Nutrition Practitioners and Pharmacists.
  • To manage line management responsibilities, including supervising andsupporting junior staff, conducting performance reviews, participating inrecruitment, and leading student placements and inductions.
  • To collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, community dietitians, andother healthcare professionals to ensure safe discharge, continuity of care,and adherence to clinical guidelines, including HCPC standards and safeguardingprotocols.
  • To maintain accurate documentation, implement evidence-based policies,participate in strategic and operational meetings, engage in CPD activities,and contribute to professional networks and departmental initiatives.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • Registered as a Dietitian with the HCPC.
  • Experience providing dietetic advice to patients relevant to the area of specialism.
  • Experience in training and supporting junior staff or students.
  • Knowledge of national guidance and key standards for nutritional management in acute care.
