Job summary

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust in Buckinghamshire is seeking a rotational Band 5 Dietitian to join our integrated Nutrition and Dietetic Department. We offer learning and support through preceptorship, clinical supervision, peer learning and CPD, including student placements.

The post provides 8-month rotations across Amersham, Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe and the Burns Centre, with opportunities to develop dietetic skills in inpatient and outpatient settings and to participate in discharge

Responsibilities

• Provide Nutrition and Dietetic services to inpatients/outpatients of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
• Provide specialised assessment, treatment and support of patients requiring dietetic treatment.
• Contribute to Adult Dietitian Oral Nutritional Supplement (ONS) Pre-Discharge Hospital Review Service.
• Prescribe dietary treatment and advise on ACBS products based on nutritional assessment.
• Discharge planning of patients to home and other locations on enteral feeds; coordinate with external agencies.

Job overview

Our unique, integrated acute/community Nutrition and Dietetic Department is searching for a Rotational Band 5 Dietitian to join our team in Buckinghamshire, including the National Spinal Injuries Centre and the regional Burns Centre. We offer excellent learning and support through preceptorship, clinical supervision, peer learning and CPD, including supporting B & C student placements. We value our staff, and actively promote staff wellbeing.

Our team of over 40 members of staff is based at 4 sites across the county with great secretarial and IT support.

We have a full-time post ideal for the newly qualified Dietitian or someone with experience looking to enhance knowledge and skills. We offer 8-month rotations across the Trust in 4 areas:

• Amersham Hospital: A community-based rotation covering rehab wards, GP clinics, home visits and a small home enteral feeding caseload.
• Stoke Mandeville Hospital: Medicine – with a focus on endocrinology, gastroenterology, haematology, and respiratory medicine.
• Stoke Mandeville Hospital: Surgery -with a focus on emergency surgery, Obs. & Gynae, ophthalmic, orthopaedic & plastic surgery and urology. This rotation also includes a general out-patient clinic
• Wycombe Hospital: with a focus on elective surgery and Stroke Rehabilitation
• Play a key role in our new ONS discharge project

Main duties of the job

• To work as part of the dietetic team to provide Nutrition and Dietetic services to inpatients / outpatients of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
• To provide specialised assessment, treatment and support of patients requiring dietetic treatment.
• To contribute to out Adult Dietitian Oral Nutritional Supplement (ONS) Pre-Discharge Hospital Review Service
• To prescribe dietary treatment and advise on the use of ACBS* products [including enteral feeds and nutritional supplements] for patients based on interpretation of nutritional assessment.
• To be responsible for the discharge planning of patients to home and other locations on enteral feeds [this includes extensive communication with outside agencies {primary health
  care staff, relatives and carers, commercial suppliers}, organisation of supplies of equipment, feed, training etc].

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

• BSc Dietetics or equivalent
• HPC Registration

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in Dietetic assessment, treatment and care planning
• Experience of oral and enteral nutrition support
• Experience of working in a community or acute setting
• Experience of MDT working/communicating with partner health care professionals e.g. Nurses, GPs, pharmacist, SLT

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

• Working knowledge of commonly used feeds and supplements
• Knowledge and application of anthropometric measures and biochemistry interpretation in dietetic assessment
• Awareness of regulatory bodies (HCPC) and professional bodies (BDA) code of practice and professional guidelines
• Commitment to engage in CPD and dept appraisal system
• Competent user of IT equipment and basic software (email, RIO)
• To be able to communicate clearly and concisely to both staff and patients
