Job summary

A regional healthcare provider is seeking a Dietetic Team Leader to join their Nutrition and Dietetic Service. The ideal candidate will lead transformational change, ensuring quality care and resource use while facilitating learning and practitioner wellbeing. Responsibilities include applying dietetics knowledge in a patient-centered environment and contributing to clinical governance. The role is based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, with responsibilities across multiple sites.

Overview

A rare opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Dietetic Team Leader to join the Nutrition and Dietetic Service in University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. We are starting a programme of transformational change in this service, and it is an exciting time to join us as an agent of change, leading improvements in quality of care, effective use of resources, and staff wellbeing.

Clinical evidence-based knowledge of dietetics, alongside a passion and commitment to leadership and management, service development and facilitation of learning and practitioner wellbeing, is fundamental. You will have compassionate communication skills with a proactive approach to problem solving and the implementation of innovative solutions within an evolving dietetics landscape. This ensures a responsive, needs-based, holistic patient-centred care. The service is aligned to and contributes to regional networks in the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB).

Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to transformational change within the Nutrition and Dietetic Service, focusing on quality of care, resource use, and staff wellbeing.
  • Apply clinical evidence-based dietetics knowledge and drive service development, learning facilitation, and practitioner wellbeing.
  • Provide compassionate communication and a proactive approach to problem solving and implementation of innovative solutions in an evolving dietetics landscape.
  • Work in a needs-based, patient-centred manner and collaborate with regional networks in the Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB.
  • Support and role-model clinical and management supervision; participate in in-house CPD programmes and leadership development.
  • Based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary with responsibility for colleagues at Queen Victoria Centre, Morecambe, and travel to other sites/clinic locations as required.
  • Support three main hospitals (Furness General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital) and associated community facilities in Morecambe Bay.
  • Assist with programme governance, service development plans, and delivery of planned care across sites (outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient services).
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Motivated, flexible, forward-thinking band 6 Dietitian; opportunity for advancement to more senior leadership roles; or current band 7 Dietitian seeking to consolidate leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites and clinics; role based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and supporting colleagues at Queen Victoria Centre, Morecambe.
  • Experience with supervision, clinical governance, and participation in CPD and leadership programmes is desirable.
Employment Details
  • Probation: All new appointments are subject to a satisfactory 6-month probationary period to help familiarize with the role and environment.
  • Location: Royal Lancaster Infirmary (Travel to other sites as required).
  • Hospitals/Settings Served: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, plus community premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practices, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
