Job summary

Knight’s Companies seeks a Diesel Technician Level III to join our maintenance team. You will ensure the safe, reliable operation of a diverse vehicle and heavy equipment fleet, mentor junior technicians, and uphold quality workmanship.

You will diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, and braking systems, perform scheduled maintenance, and travel for on-site repairs. A strong safety mindset and teamwork are essential to succeed here.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • Auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school preferred; or minimum of 5 years’ experience performing maintenance or mechanical ability.
  • Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B preferred.
  • Must provide own hand tools & toolbox.
  • Knowledge of handheld scanning tools and the process of diagnosing vehicles.
  • Proficient computer skills: Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and Email.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Change and repair tires per manufacturer specs.
  • Oil and filter services on diverse vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnostics and repairs on electrical systems (12V/24V).
  • Maintain power and hydraulic systems for safety and operation.
  • Guide Diesel Technicians I and II.
  • Keep accurate maintenance/repair records.
  • Follow safety protocols and standards.
  • Perform off-site service calls for diagnosis/repair.
  • Provide on-site repair at facilities/locations.
  • Diagnose drive shafts, brakes, and water systems.

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Diesel Technician Level III to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a diverse fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment. You will also provide guidance and support to Diesel Technicians I and II, contributing to a collaborative and safety-focused work environment. What You'll Do:
  • Change and repair tires in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform oil and filter services on a variety of vehicles including automobiles, concrete trucks, tractor-trailers, front-end loaders, and other equipment.
  • Conduct diagnostics and repairs on electrical systems, ranging from auxiliary components such as lighting and switches to complex 12V and 24V electrical architectures on fleet trucks and heavy machinery.
  • Assess and maintain power and hydraulic systems to ensure proper operation and safety standards.
  • Assist and provide guidance to Diesel Technicians I and II, supporting team efforts and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure all work is completed in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Perform service calls to diagnose and repair off‑site trucks and equipment using company service vehicle.
  • Provide on‑site repair services by traveling to plant facilities and vehicle locations.
  • Diagnose and repair universal, slip joints, support bearings on drive shafts, air and hydraulic brake systems and pressurized water systems.
  • Work closely with Area Fleet Manager to maintain positive workflow throughout the shop.
What You Need to Succeed:
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • Auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school preferred; or minimum of 5 years’ experience performing maintenance or mechanical ability.
  • Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B preferred.
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if it is operating properly.
  • Must provide own hand tools & toolbox.
  • Knowledge of handheld scanning tools and the process of diagnosing vehicles.
  • Ability to read schematics and familiarity with the process.
  • Proficient computer skills: knowledge of Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and Email
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. from floor to waist height.
  • Ability to carry minimum of 50 lbs. over a 5-foot span.
  • Ability to push / pull a minimum of 50 lbs. across a 10-foot span.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. from waist to shoulder.
  • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend or twist body without restriction.
  • Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather, including but not limited to high heat, low temperature, and high sun environments.
Pay Range

$32 - $36 USD
