Overview

We are recruiting a Diabetic Eye Screener/grader who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. To work within the Herts and West Essex Diabetic Eye Screening Programme to deliver diabetic eye screening for patients in the Herts and West Essex area to the highest standards of quality and care.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out accurate visual acuity testing of patients.
  • Correctly administer anaesthetic and dilation eye drops prior to retinal photography according to departmental protocol.
  • Be aware of the possible undesirable effects of dilating drops and provide patient education regarding these.
  • Take high‑quality and correctly aligned photographs, guiding eye position using external fixation where possible.
  • Accurately grade images according to screening programme requirements and send results to patients and their GPs as directed by the clinical lead.
  • Deal with patients sympathetically and tactfully whilst maintaining confidentiality.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Previous photographic and/or diagnostic imaging experience is desirable.
  • Trainee Diabetic eye screener positions will be considered where Agenda for Change conditions apply.
  • Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours.
