Job summary

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) Data and Technology Services invites applications for a DevOps Lead on a two-year fixed-term appointment. The role combines hands-on engineering with leadership of a small DevOps/DataOps team, supporting LFY Programme across projects and products.

Candidates should have strong cloud experience (AWS and/or Azure), IaC and CI/CD expertise, and a track record of delivering scalable, secure infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of AWS and/or Azure, with hybrid cloud experience.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and config management (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
• Experience building/maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).

Responsibilities

• Lead DevOps and DataOps engineers across projects and products.
• Collaborate with Head of Engineering, Platforms, Networks, Security, Architecture and Delivery Leads.
• Bridge between operational services and project/product delivery teams.

Data and Technology Services – DevOps Lead. Salary from 53,949 to 62,160 pa inclusive with potential to progress to 69,073 pa inclusive of London allowance. This is a fixed term appointment for two years.

The London School of Economics is a cosmopolitan university situated in the vibrant centre of London that specialises in the study of social sciences.

LSE’s Data and Technology Services division provides services to over 10,000 staff and student users.

The DevOps Lead will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the LFY Programme and associated initiatives, combining hands‑on engineering expertise with leadership of a small team of DevOps and DataOps engineers working across projects and products. Working within the newly established Engineering function, the role will collaborate closely with the Head of Engineering, Platforms, Networks, Security, Architecture and Delivery Leads to adopt existing operational and engineering standards into project and product delivery, while introducing modern DevOps practices where needed. The postholder will act as a bridge between operational services and project/product delivery teams, helping ensure infrastructure, automation, deployment and support requirements are designed and delivered in a way that is scalable, secure, reliable and supportable. The role will provide additional technical leadership and coordination while the Engineering function evolves and matures.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms, including experience supporting hybrid environments spanning public cloud and on‑premise infrastructure.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management technologies such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible or equivalent.
• Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Ansible or equivalent technologies.
