Job summary

Burendo, a UK-based award-winning consultancy, seeks a DevOps/Cloud Engineer to join the Leeds team. You will design, deploy and manage AWS infrastructure, build CI/CD pipelines, and help modernise applications across live production environments.

You will work in a pragmatic, collaborative culture, embracing new tools including AI-assisted coding, with a strong focus on governance, security, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing AWS infrastructure (EC2, VPC, S3, EBS, IAM).
• Strong knowledge of AWS services such as ECS or EKS, Lambda, RDS, and S3.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CodePipeline).
• Solid understanding of cloud security, governance, and compliance.
• Experience monitoring and optimizing cloud environments.
• Experience supporting migrations to AWS (on-premises to AWS).
• Understanding of agile methodologies.
• Experience in production live environments.
• Git knowledge.
• Experience with database technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and manage AWS infrastructure across EC2, VPC, S3, EBS, and IAM.
• Operate with ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, and S3 in cloud environments.
• Implement IaC using Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
• Manage CI/CD pipelines and ensure automated deployments.
• Maintain cloud security, governance, and compliance.
• Monitor and optimize cloud environments.
• Support migrations and modernization initiatives to AWS.
• Collaborate in agile teams and production environments.

The must haves:

• Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing AWS infrastructure — including EC2, VPC networking, S3 and EBS storage, and IAM
• Strong working knowledge of AWS services such as ECS or EKS, Lambda, RDS, and S3
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or AWS CodePipeline
• Solid understanding of cloud security, governance, and compliance
• Experience monitoring and optimising cloud environments
• Experience supporting application migrations or modernisation initiatives, including on-premises to AWS
• A good understanding of and experience working with agile methodologies
• Experience working in and supporting live production environments
• Understanding of and working experience with source control, particularly Git
• Experience with database technologies of some flavour

And it would be great if you have any of these:

• Experience using AI coding assistants, such as Claude, GitHub Copilot or Cursor, to help write and review infrastructure as code, pipelines and scripts, with appropriate human review before anything is deployed
• Experience of agentic coding tools, such as Claude Code, within a team workflow, including defining project guidance and conventions for the tool to follow
• Experience of using AI to support operations, such as troubleshooting incidents, analysing logs and alerts, or drafting runbooks and documentation
• Experience implementing backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions using AWS-native services
