Job summary

Leidos UK & EUROPE is seeking DevOps Engineers to support UK programmes with agile teams, database design, migrations to AWS, and continuous delivery practices. You will participate in daily scrums, analyze requirements, identify risks and collaborate across teams, with cross‑training across systems engineering and security.

Qualifications

• Software engineering experience.
• Experience with developing code in AWS Services and associated tools (Jira, Confluence, TestRail, SonarQube, Robot, Python, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, Unix bash scripting, IaC) and the SDLC.
• Experience translating user stories into engineering deliverables and documentation.
• Systems software development, including deployment of build artifacts across environments using GitFlow.
• Experience with automated build/test/deploy and AWS SME stack (Wintel/Unix/Virtualised Networking/Monitoring/Security).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet milestones; aligns with Leidos delivery standards.

Responsibilities

• Configure databases for performance, resilience, replication, reporting, administration and backup/archiving.
• Designs and maintains complex databases with SQL, access methods, security, documentation and statistics.
• Applies knowledge of database tech, development methods, and front-end/back-end programming (COGNOS/SQL).
• Performs database programming and supports systems design.
• Contributes to runbooks for database dictionaries, monitoring, storage and system integration.
• Aligns with Leidos delivery standards and suggests improvements.

Job description

The Role

Due to growth within UK programmes, we will need talented DevOps Engineers throughout the course of 2026… Duties include participating in daily scrums, performing software requirements analysis, risk identification, risk mitigation, and collaboration across Agile teams. Flexible cross‑training to also provide systems engineering, software development, training, security, and testing is also desired.

Location

Future vacancies could be available in Bristol, Farnborough or Whiteley (Hampshire).

Key Responsibilities

• Designs, creates, and maintains databases in a client/server environment.


• Plan and execute migration of database and associated date from physical/IaaS to virtual AWS instances


• Configures database for optimal performance/resilience/replication/reporting/administration and data backup/archiving regime


• Designs, implements, and maintains complex databases with respect to SQL, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.


• Applies knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and front‑end (e.g., COGNOS)/back‑end programming languages (e.g., SQL).


• Performs database programming and supports systems design.


• Contribute to runbooks for maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, file design and storage, and integration of systems through database design.


• Align with existing Leidos delivery standards and identify/craft/suggest improvements thereon

What does Leidos need from me

• Software engineering experience


• Considerable experience with developing software code in AWS Services, Jira, Confluence, TestRail, SonarQube, Robot, Python, Bitbucket, Jenkins, TerraForm, Ansible, Unix bash scripting IaC and an appreciation for the SDLC


• Considerable experience in translating user stories into engineering deliverables and associated documentation.


• Perform systems software development, including deployment of build artifacts across different environments leverage GitFlow constructs


• Considerable experience of with automated build/test/deploy


• Considerable experience of AWS, SME (Wintel / Unix / Virtualised Networking / Monitoring / Security) Experience of SAFe Collaborator, self‑starter


• Ability to work in fast paced environment and deliver results key milestones targets


• Align with existing Leidos delivery standards and identify/craft/suggest improvements thereon


• Excellent English, written and interpersonal communication skills


• Must be a UK Citizen and based in UK for the duration


• Must have, or be able to obtain, a UK SC Clearance
