Job summary

Band 6 to Band 7 developmental post - Senior Respiratory Physiotherapist or Respiratory CNS

Band 6 developmental post to Band 7, once agreed competencies are meet within a set time period at successful appointment.

A vacant post for a developmental band 7 has arisen in North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) in the area of South West Essex within the Integrated Respiratory Team.

The Integrated Respiratory Team are and integrated service with Nursing staff, Specialist Physiotherapists, Assistant Practitioners, Senior Physiotherapy Assistants and Administration staff.

The team cover many aspects of community respiratory care, services include, COPD Team, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Home Oxygen Service, Respiratory Virtual Ward and Breathlessness and Diagnostics service.

Salary for band 6 is £35,392 - £42,618 plus 5% HCAS per annum
Salary for band 7 is £43,742 - £50,056 plus 5% HCAS per annum

Main duties of the job
  • 1. Promoting effective self‑management of patients and/or providing professional intervention for community management in order to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, improve quality of life and to actively identify patients who would benefit from case management.
  • 2. Contribute to both patient and professional education
  • 3. Deliver high level of respiratory care to COPD patients and other suitably identified respiratory conditions.
  • 4. Working knowledge of oxygen therapy and assessment.
  • 5. The post holder will be able to perform assessment and delivery of Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
  • 6. The post holder will be expected to support the delivery of the Respiratory Virtual Ward (RVW) which supports Admission Avoidance and Early Supported Discharge pathways.
  • 7. To support Breathlessness and Diagnostics service by performing quality FeNo and ARTP accredited Spirometry. This service is evolving and additional suitable pathways and reviews may be made.
  • 8. To participate in MDT, teaching, supervision of Junior staff and provide peer support.
  • 9. To support with all aspects of service delivery and ongoing review of pathways and transformation of Respiratory services.
  • 10. Support and deliver the Trusts Values.
  • 11. Supporting the new SOS service in conjunction with the virtual ward for specialist respiratory care and access.

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £1,192 and a maximum payment of £2,011 per annum pro rata).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are a busy, fast paced team, within an ever changing landscape of Respiratory Care, forward thinking and innovative, we work closely with our local partners working towards consistent care across Mid and South Essex.

As an integrated service there will be in house training on all aspects of service and staff are expected to support all areas of service provision with the chance to upskill in nursing and therapy areas.

The post is Monday - Friday 9-5pm aspects of service also operate on a Saturday and Sunday at 9-5pm. Staff within the service are expected to cover weekend working as part of a shared pattern.

The successful candidate will be a Qualified Physiotherapist or Respiratory Nurse with at least 3 years experience at band 6 including Respiratory experience, including those with complex Respiratory presentation and those with multiple co‑morbidities.

This post requires that you work flexibly across South West Essex and be able to travel to clinic locations across patch and also home visiting.

the area covered is Thurrock and Basildon, Brentwood, Wickford and Billericay CCGs.

Certain respiratory qualifications and courses are mandatory but this can be supported if the successful candidate does not have these currently but qualifies at interview.

The service and Trust actively support CPD.
