Job summary

Nexus Life Sciences is seeking an experienced Development Chemist for a well-established site undergoing expansion. The role leads R&D for organic synthesis, designs processes from lab to pilot plant, and supports transfer to manufacturing while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates hold a chemistry degree and have industrial experience in chemicals or pharmaceutical manufacturing. This position offers a compelling salary and pension/benefits as part of a growing team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (organic or process chemistry preferred).
  • Industrial experience in chemicals or pharmaceutical manufacturing plants.
  • Proven ability to write and review SOPs, risk assessments, and technical reports.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a safety-conscious mindset.
  • Comfortable working independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead R&D for organic synthesis and process development from laboratory to pilot plant production.
  • Design, develop, and optimise manufacturing processes to improve yields, reduce costs, and eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Prepare and maintain SOPs, risk assessments, and technical documentation.
  • Support new product introduction from research through to full-scale manufacture.
  • Provide technical support to production and respond to customer or internal technical queries.
  • Work with QC analysts to support analytical testing.
  • Troubleshoot plant issues, and contribute to process safety and quality improvements.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and R&D teams for smooth process transfer.
  • Maintain health, safety, and environmental compliance when handling hazardous and reactive chemicals.

Development Chemist

I am partnered with a leading chemical manufacturing company that is undergoing significant expansion and is looking to recruit an experienced development chemist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead R&D for organic synthesis and process development from laboratory to pilot plant production.
  • Design, develop, and optimise manufacturing processes to improve yields, reduce costs, and eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, and technical documentation.
  • Support new product introduction from research through to full‑scale manufacture.
  • Provide technical support to production and respond to customer or internal technical queries.
  • Work in collaboration with QC analysts to support analytical testing.
  • Troubleshoot plant issues, and contribute to process safety and quality improvements.
  • Work collaboratively with production, quality, and R&D teams to ensure smooth process transfer and implementation.
  • Maintain standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance, particularly when handling hazardous and reactive chemicals.
Requirements
  • Life science degree in Chemistry (organic or process chemistry discipline preferred).
  • Industrial experience within chemicals or pharmaceutical manufacturing plants.

  • Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills, with a proactive and safety‑conscious mindset.
