Job summary

Mitie Group plc. is seeking a Detention Custody Officer at Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre to ensure safety, welfare and orderly facilities for residents. You will monitor behaviour, support activities, and report accurately on systems, with a rolling shift pattern including nights. Part-time applications are welcome and will be considered.

Applicants must pass security and background checks, hold UK residency, and be able to meet mobility and basic Maths/English testing requirements.

  • Ensure safe accommodation and supervision of residents to prevent harm at the centre.
  • Proactively identify and support any resident health or wellbeing deterioration.

Job description

To care for residents entrusted with us at the centre, ensuring exceptional standards of safety, security, dignified care, and respect.

  • Support and encourage residents to engage in recreational activities, arts, crafts and other opportunities for cultural expression.
  • Carry out any necessary shift audits, administration, counts and searches of residents, reporting accurately as required in a timely manner on our systems.
  • Ensure the safe accommodation and detention of residents at the centre so they do not come to harm.
  • Pro-actively identify and support any resident suffering a deterioration in physical or mental health and wellbeing.
What we are looking for

Being a Detention Custody Officer demands emotional intelligence, patience, resilience and professionalism. You will need good communication skills to work together as part of a team. There may be occasions where you need to resolve conflict or prevent residents from harming themselves or others. Part time applications are also welcomed and can be considered.

Specific Requirements

Please note that all offers of employment are subject to security clearance and enhanced background checks

  • You must be a British Citizen, EU citizen with settled status, or have an ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain).
  • Bankruptcy history, CCJs, social media activity and criminal convictions will be checked.
  • You must have lived in the UK for the past three years with no significant footprint outside of the UK other than for normal holidays.
  • You will also be required to pass a basic Maths and English test, and a mobility test.

Due to the safety-critical nature of this role, we require that employees are not under the influence of any substance-including prescribed medication-that may impair their ability to perform their duties safely. This includes any THC-based prescriptions due to the lack of reliable evidence on safe levels of THC in the system.

Salary: £31,500 + free Mitie shares, with potential to earn more via overtime.40hrs Per week (Rolling shift pattern with a mixture of short and long days, including a set of night shifts)
