Responsibilities and Qualifications
- Collaborative Development: Work closely with design team members and developers to build, update, and modernize software product user interfaces using agile methodologies across a globally distributed team.
- Design Thinking Workshops: Plan, lead, and moderate virtual and in-person design thinking workshops.
- Translate Insights into Designs: Convert actionable insights from the design research team into low and high-fidelity mock-ups, patterns, prototypes, and development-ready specifications.
- Create Visual Assets: Develop high-fidelity mock-ups, graphics, design patterns, prototypes, and demos to enhance user interfaces.
- Pattern Collaboration: Participate in discussions regarding common patterns, assets, and efficiencies within the product space.
- Scenario Design: Design business process scenarios and flows for user interfaces and demonstrations.
- Feedback Loop: Share work-in-progress designs and actively engage in giving and receiving constructive critique.
- Business Context: Understand business problems across our customer base to provide context for deliverables.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with various stakeholders such as design researchers, content designers, developers, product owners, etc., across worldwide teams.
- UI Problem Solving: Ability to solve complex user problems through user interface design, creating mock-ups, prototypes, and documenting interaction patterns.
- Design Tools Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with design tools such as Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.
- Visual Design Skills & Design Principles: Proficient in creating visually compelling artifacts, icons, high fidelity mock-ups, and other graphical elements for user interfaces. Knowledge of design principles including typography, layout, imagery, colour theory, and creating efficiencies in visual design workflows.
- Workshop Facilitation: Knowledge in planning and moderating design thinking workshops.
- Portfolio Presentation: Must have a portfolio showcasing previous design work.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- Knowledge/Experience of working in Open Source communities: Appreciation for dealing with the conflicting requirements of developing software that is to be used both in a commercial product, but also forms part of an open source project with stakeholders outside IBM.
- Familiarity with the PatternFly design system: existing applications have been built using PatternFly, and developers will be looking to the designer to help them with aligning the visual ideas with an implementation in PatternFly.
