Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking an experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in Oxford to oversee the school’s safeguarding provision and protect the welfare of all pupils. The role requires ownership of safeguarding procedures, advising staff and collaborating with senior leaders, pastoral teams, healthcare professionals, families and external partners.

You will coordinate referrals, complete risk assessments, maintain confidential records and promote best practice.

Qualifications

• Safeguarding experience working with children and young people.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and child protection procedures.
• Ability to manage complex safeguarding cases and multi-agency partnerships.
• Excellent communication, record-keeping and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Taking the lead on safeguarding arrangements and ensuring effective child protection practices are embedded throughout the school.
• Coordinating and progressing safeguarding referrals, working with social care, police, Prevent and other specialist services where appropriate.
• Building positive relationships with parents and carers, offering guidance and support with empathy, professionalism and understanding.
• Working alongside clinical colleagues to review and manage pupil risk assessments, ensuring appropriate measures are in place to safeguard individual needs.
• Keeping oversight of safeguarding concerns, agreed interventions, child protection plans and follow-up actions to ensure timely progression.
• Providing leadership, guidance and ongoing support to the wider safeguarding team, including Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads.
• Maintaining high standards of safeguarding documentation and ensuring school policies, procedures and statutory requirements are consistently met.
• Liaising with external agencies and multi-disciplinary professionals to coordinate support and achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people
