Job description

To lead and manage safeguarding at Include St Matthews. This includes developing and implementing the safeguarding strategy, acting as Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs), and ensuring full compliance with statutory safeguarding responsibilities. The post-holder will act as the primary source of advice, support, and direction to safeguarding teams, while driving effective multi-agency collaboration. The role will work closely with the Assistant SENCo to support looked after and vulnerable students. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development and delivery of safeguarding and attendance policies and procedures at Include St Matthews.
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for Include St Matthews.
  • Liaise with external agencies, including Local Authorities, Children's Services, and safeguarding boards.
  • Oversee and improve attendance systems and outreach, including home visits and multi-agency work.
  • Provide challenge, support, and training to DSLs and safeguarding teams at Include St Matthews.
  • Lead on responses to safeguarding incidents, low-level concerns, and LADO referrals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation and ensure compliance with KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education) and other statutory frameworks.
  • Review and monitor school safeguarding audits, SCRs (Single Central Record), 175 returns, and other quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure effective training is delivered on all safeguarding matters, including DSL updates and safeguarding awareness.
  • Support Include St Matthews during Ofsted inspections and in preparation for external reviews.
  • Oversee safeguarding data collection across Include St Matthews, identify patterns/trends, and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and lead Include St Matthews Safeguarding Group, promoting shared learning and best practice.
  • Retain oversight of statutory policies related to safeguarding, behaviour, and attendance across Include Education.
  • Report to the Head of Centre on safeguarding and attendance performance and compliance.
