Job summary

Severn Trent is seeking a Design Manager to lead an integrated team of in-house designers and external consultants across the Severn Trent region. You will develop engineering solutions for wastewater treatment investments and manage the design programme from planning through execution.

You will coordinate with multiple stakeholders, ensure risk controls, and maintain high-quality outputs while guiding a team of design professionals and suppliers in a dynamic, safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

  • Ideally degree qualified in a related discipline.
  • Experience in managing waste water treatment related design projects.
  • Strong planning and implementation skills with external suppliers.
  • Exposure to Principal Designer duties under CDM regulations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Forward-thinking innovator, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change.
  • Ability to make educated judgments in ambiguity and see the bigger picture.

About The Role

Reporting to the Design Business Lead, the Design Manager will lead an integrated team of Severn Trent design staff and consultants to develop engineering solutions for a wide range of Waste Water Treatment investment needs ranging from Capital maintenance works to complex waste water treatment and biosolids enhancement projects.

The programme of works will cover projects across the Severn Trent region. Directly accountable for a team of design professionals, you will develop strong working relationships and drive the identification and management of risks which could impact on the successful delivery of the capital programme.

What You’ll Bring To The Role
  • Ideally degree qualified in a related discipline, you’ll be an experienced manager with strong coaching skills in solution design.
  • Experience in managing waste water treatment related design projects.
  • Strong planning and implementation skills, with experience of managing external suppliers to deliver outputs to prescribed standards and quality measures would be required.
  • Exposure of carrying out the role of Principal Designer representative with accountability for discharging Principal Designer duties in accordance with CDM regulations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Forward-thinking innovator, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • You will be able to make educated judgments and decisions in the face of ambiguity and have a good grasp of the bigger picture, seeking opportunities to contribute to the wider agenda.
