Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking a Senior / Design Manager to lead engineering and design delivery for complex water and wastewater projects within the Southern Region. You will oversee multidisciplinary teams, ensure designs are robust, buildable and aligned with client requirements and regulatory standards.

The role requires a proven track record in design management, collaboration with diverse stakeholders, and an ability to drive delivery across the design lifecycle while maintaining safety,

Qualifications

• Engineering degree and Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
• Extensive multidisciplinary design-management experience.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety, CDM and design assurance.
• Experience in water or wastewater sector preferred.
• A collaborative, solution-focused approach and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering and design delivery across project portfolio from scope definition to handover.
• Ensure designs meet HSE, quality, technical, environmental, sustainability and governance requirements.
• Collaborate with designers, technical specialists, suppliers, construction teams and clients.
• Manage design plans, deliverables, risks, decisions, change control and monthly reporting.
• Promote open communication, constructive challenge and continuous improvement.

My Client is looking for a Design Manager / Senior Design Manager in the Water Sector

We are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Senior / Design Manager, based at a suitable location within our Southern Region with flexible working available.

Our design leaders play a critical role in shaping innovative, sustainable solutions that help deliver safer, smarter, and more resilient water services for our customers and communities.

We are looking for a Senior / Design Manager to provide leadership across the design lifecycle, ensuring high-quality, technically robust, and buildable solutions are developed and delivered. Working across a portfolio of major projects, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, influence project outcomes, and drive collaboration to ensure designs meet client requirements, programme objectives, and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities:

• Leading engineering and design delivery across a portfolio of projects, from scope definition through to handover.
• Making sure designs meet health and safety, quality, technical, environmental, sustainability and governance requirements.
• Working closely with designers, technical specialists, suppliers, construction teams and clients to deliver successful project outcomes.
• Managing design plans, deliverables, risks, decisions, change control and monthly reporting.
• Supporting a culture of open communication, constructive challenge, shared learning and continuous improvement.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Extensive multidisciplinary design-management experience, ideally in a design-build environment.
• An engineering degree and Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent professional standing.
• Strong knowledge of construction health and safety, CDM, design assurance and large-scale project delivery.
• Experience in the water or wastewater sector would be highly beneficial.
• A collaborative, solution-focused approach and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
