Job summary

Binnies is seeking a Design Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team delivering a £110m portfolio of wastewater treatment projects. This hybrid role focuses on phosphorus removal, storm overflow reduction, and sustainable solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in engineering and experience leading teams in capital projects. A passion for innovation and sustainability, along with knowledge of CDM regulations, is essential.

Role

Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team (15–20 people) delivering a £110m portfolio of wastewater treatment projects across multiple catchments, focusing on phosphorus removal, storm overflow reduction, and future growth using a holistic, place-based approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design delivery across a portfolio of complex wastewater projects
• Manage engineering plans covering scope, programme, cost, risk and resources
• Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers and stakeholders to deliver outcomes
• Drive affordability, sustainability and low‑carbon design solutions
• Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and champion health & safety
• Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary team
• Promote innovation, standardisation and digital engineering (e.g. 3D modelling)

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering (or equivalent); Chartered or working towards
• Experience leading engineering teams and delivering design on capital projects
• Knowledge of CDM regulations and design responsibilities
• Wastewater or utilities experience desirable
• Strong leadership, collaboration and problem‑solving skills
