Job summary

Vantage Consulting in St Asaph is seeking a Design Manager to lead and coordinate design activities across the Water Framework. The role is hybrid, based in St Asaph, with an indicative salary around 80k per year.

You will manage regional design engineers, allocate resources, and ensure designs meet client, regulatory, technical, quality and safety requirements. A strong background in civil/mechanical/electrical or design engineering is essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Design Engineering.

  • Knowledge of clean and wastewater systems.
  • Experience with NEC contracts and framework agreements.
  • CDM 2015 and health and safety awareness.

  • Ability to make sound technical decisions and govern design.

  • Review tender design requirements, considering deliverability, risk, cost and programme.
  • Support resource planning, succession planning and the technical development of the design team.
  • Promote innovation, continuous improvement and good practice across design delivery.

Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams, ideally within water infrastructure or a related sector.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Design Engineering.
  • Experience working across multiple projects and managing competing priorities.
  • Good knowledge of clean and wastewater systems and processes.
  • Experience working with NEC contracts and framework agreements.
  • Strong understanding of the design lifecycle, including optioneering, outline design, detailed design and design reviews.
  • Knowledge of CDM 2015, safe-by-design principles and relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Awareness of WIMES, DWI requirements, design codes and relevant legislation.
  • Strong organisational, planning and resource management skills.
  • The ability to make sound technical decisions and provide effective design governance.
  • Experience of using design management software and systems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A collaborative approach to leadership, team development and problem-solving.
