Job description

Design Manager / Design Coordinator | Construction

Are you an experienced Design Coordinator or Design Manager looking for greater ownership across the pre-construction and design process?

ScaleX Talent Solutions are partnering with an established and growing civil engineering and construction contractor delivering high-quality projects across the UK and Ireland.

With continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking for a Design Manager / Design Coordinator to join their team in Kegworth.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands the construction design process and wants to take responsibility for projects from planning and pre-construction through to a successful handover to the site team.

The Opportunity

You’ll play a key role in coordinating the design process, ensuring projects are technically compliant, commercially viable and ready for construction.

You’ll be responsible for:

Managing and coordinating projects from planning approval through to commencement on site.

Appointing and managing external consultants and design teams.

Coordinating construction drawings, technical information, testing and reports.

Leading and recording design review meetings.

Working closely with planning, commercial and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Coordinating planning submissions and the discharge of planning conditions.

Reviewing designs against client requirements, budgets and relevant regulations.

Identifying value engineering opportunities to improve buildability, quality and cost.

Managing the flow of technical information and ensuring key details are incorporated into the design.

Supporting compliance with CDM Regulations, including an understanding of Client, Principal Designer and Designer responsibilities.

Managing the handover from pre-construction into the construction phase.

About You

You’ll have a strong understanding of how construction projects move from planning and design through to delivery on site.

You’ll bring:

Previous experience as a Design Coordinator, Design Manager or in a similar construction design role (residential).

A relevant construction, architectural or technical qualification.

Experience working through the design stages within a main contractor environment.

A good understanding of the planning process, Building Regulations and Section Agreements.

Technical knowledge of key design considerations, including fire and acoustic requirements.

An understanding of SAP calculations and their impact on design.

Confidence coordinating consultants, technical information and multiple project stakeholders.

Experience using relevant design and project management software.

Strong communication, organisation, negotiation and problem-solving skills.

What's on Offer?

Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll benefit from:

  • Private medical insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Performance-related bonus
  • Training and professional membership support
  • Additional holidays
  • Hybrid working, depending on project requirements
  • Genuine opportunities for career development and progression

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to take real ownership of the design process within an established contractor experiencing continued growth.

You’ll work across the technical, commercial and construction sides of projects, giving you the opportunity to influence how schemes are designed, developed and ultimately delivered on site.

For an experienced Design Coordinator ready to step up, or an established Design Manager looking for their next move, this could be an excellent opportunity.
